Brian Matthews is currently completing his MPH in nutrition and has spent his final semester with the CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity in Atlanta, GA. While at the CDC, Brian worked on the redesign of the Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC) survey for the 2017 release. He assisted in providing technical assistance for state health departments and partners and was a member of the infant feeding team, breastfeeding and early care and education workgroups. Brian developed several documents to assist the CDC in providing technical assistance and a policy brief on the ACA’s Nursing Mother Law, which he will present to state health departments and the USBC.
Following his December graduation, Brian will prepare to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians to become a Registered Dietitian and then the IBLCE Examination to become an IBCLC. He will become the 13th male IBCLC globally and hopes to continue working with public health programs that focus on breastfeeding support. Brian is deeply grateful for the incredible support and opportunities afforded him while at UNC, particularly in MRTTI/CGBI.
