The EMPower Initiative is a quality improvement project designed to support hospitals in the achievement of Baby-Friendly USA© designation. Our collaboration consists of 93 hospitals in 24 states, and is led by a team of professionals at three organizations.  We have kicked off our third year of the project and are conducting multiple site visits where our on-the-ground technical assistance coaches provide hands-on education, guidance and leadership to our hospital teams. Please learn more about our hospitals via our Hospital Spotlights page online. We’d like to congratulate Madison Hospital in Madison, AL for officially achieving Baby-Friendly designation! See the graph below for a visual of the progress EMPower hospitals have made to date.

Baby-Friendly USA has a new resources available online this quarter that may be of interest to professionals working on implementation of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, the hallmark maternity care practices at the core of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.  A new webpage, the Safety of Baby-Friendly Practices is now live and is accessible via the Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria tab. Additionally, one can access a recording of the Baby-Friendly webinar entitled, Safety First. We appreciate your continued interest and support in this important work of ensuring evidenced-based mother-baby focused care is the norm in delivering facilities everywhere. For updated progress on how we are doing as a nation, please check out the new Breastfeeding Report Card from the CDC.
